The Comment Spam Visits With A Vengeance

Well, I guess it was inevitable.  The “Comment Spammers” have found my blog.  The other day I had a handful which was no big deal, I manually deleted them like I would remove toilet paper from the trees after being pranked.  This time it's a more serious dent.  I have two-hundred and forty (240) comments today.  Compare that with only about a dozen at last remembrance.  I guess I need to apply Andrew Connell's remedy mentioned here for these viral attacks *pronto* before I get frosted again.  I hate Spam!

VS2005 and Partial To Partial Classes

[via Bayer White] If you haven't subscribed to Bayer White's blog you might wanna clickety-click click it.  Bayer is a colleague and has started blogging.  You'll benefit from his insights like this one on Partial Classes... I am trying to figure out how I did it without them! Partial classes make it so easy to clean up defined objects or classes taking advantage of VS2005 intellisense. Check out the entire posting at the following link... Partial To Partial Classes

InfoPath: Using Sharepoint Lists Web Service To Add Update For Integration

As you might have gathered from recent postings my current project entails integrating InfoPath with Sharepoint.  One major requirement is manipulating Sharepoint List Items.  Andrew Connell came across a posting by Ryan Rogers called... Adding New List Items Using the Lists.asmx Web Service The approach requires the use of CAML (Collaborative Application Markup Language) XML Batches.  I plan on posting an article (in the near future) on my experiences with integrating InfoPath and Sharepoint complete with example source code - be looking for it.  Until then, I'll reference my previous findings up to this point... Patterns & Practices: Enterprise Library Core Architecture

[via tomhollander] I can personally vouch for the use of Enterprise Library.  We have used it in previous projects.  The time you save in not having to write extra lines of code to accomplish what has already been built is a tremendouos help. We redirected time saved to other areas of design and development. We specifically benefited from the Data Application Block for .NET 1.1 Framework.  I have also used the Exception Application Block.  I have not worked with the .NET 2.0 Framework version yet - thus the reason for this posting... This coming Thursday, December 8th, there is a webcast all...

Tips & Tricks: Playtagger - Avoid Apps Fighting Over Who Plays The MP3

[via Dan from del.icio.us] Are you tired of multiple applications fighting over who'll play a MP3 file?  Playtagger (a.k.a ClickNipples) is a cool one liner that'll fix the problem for you and your guests.  It even allows the user to tag it to their del.icio.us account.  I found this here and here.  Below you'll see a screen snippet of some mp3's I posted on my blog recently here. And here's the one liner javascript you can place anywhere in your HTML to make it happen... I placed this inside of my news link config section within my .Text 095 install. This allows every MP3 link to...

Something to Look forward to in 2006

[via Carl Franklin] During the month of December we at Pwop and me at Franklins.Net are working hard on kicking everything up a notch. I've mentioned this before, but we're going to be producing two new shows: dnrTV - a weekly one-hour screencast show that'll be part DNR interview and part Webcast showcasing some of the brightest and most interesting developers in the world. Hanselminutes - Scott Hanselman's new podcast - a 30 minute weekly audio show in which Scott talks about specific problems he and his team have encountered and how they solved them.

Creating Connectable Web Part with the SmartPart

[via Jan Tielen] Lately I got quite some questions about how you can create connectable web parts with the SmartPart for SharePoint. Because I’m a little bit lazy I’ve recorded a screencast that’s going to show you the basics for creating connectable web user controls that can by hosted in the SmartPart for SharePoint. I’m using SmartPart version 1.1 and ASP.NET 1.1/Visual Studio.NET 2003/SharePoint 2003. If there are some people who want to do the same using the Son of SmartPart and ASP.NET 2.0/Visual Studio 2005/SharePoint 2003, it’s almost exactly the same (same interfaces etc.). In the screencast I’m showing two...

Ray LaMontagne Making Up For Lost Time

I posted about Ray Lamontagne a month ago. Since that time, he has grown in recognition and his fan base has exploded. He is touring Europe, the UK and the US. A simple search on Google returns back a ton of results. It would seem that serendipity is now Ray LaMontagne's middle name. He went from the middle of nowhere to making his first record in collaboration with a brilliant producer (Ethan Johns), and he did it without making a compromise or even breaking a sweat. But maybe Ray's sweated enough in his life. Maybe destiny is making up for lost...
