SNAGIT version 9 has been released. The initial price appears to be $49.95. The upgrade price (from version 8, until August 12, 2008) is only $19.95. I have not upgraded yet myself. Otherwise, if you have read my two previous postings regarding version 8 you were able to get it for $20.

What One Last Mortgage Payment Looks Like

We have reached a milestone in our life at the Larimore household. Please do not take this as boasting, because I am not. About three years ago my wife enrolled us in a Dave Ramsey financial peace seminar. I was not too thrilled about the deal to be honest. But since that very first class I saw debt in a new light. Granted, my wife and I did not have a huge amount of debt incurred. Still, we had the typical mortgage, credit card and non-budgeted approach to life. We also had 4 children then came five :o) What we were given was knowledge, tools to solve our problem and hope that it could be done easier than we thought. Three years later we are looking at the fruits of our labor. As you can see above, we are about to pay our last mortgage payment!

<rant>The majority of people in the United States have succumbed to the fact that having a mortgage their entire life is normal. This was a foreign idea to many of our parents and grandparents. It is entirely possible for you to be out-of-debt. The first step is, You must believe it's possible. Then understand what you are missing out on by accepting debt as normal. When you see that debt puts you into bondage from those things you could otherwise achieve in life, your eyes will be opened. Then you have the desire to want to be out of debt. This gives you the power to start implementing a plan to get out of bondage (debt). </rant>

<additional rant>For an example of how numb folks have become to debt, you can go no further than all the foreclosure articles on moneycentral.msn.com. People who opted for an ARM loan on or after 2003 had no idea that their payments would be more than doubling when the fine print kicked in.</additional rant>

Balancing Work With Family Life

I just read a posting by Keith Richie that explains his typical work day. He explains how he has a two hour decompression time and then "disengages" from work totally. The rest of the day is devoted to his family. It is well written from the heart and has caused me to think of incorporating something similar. I have a coworker that does something similar. We three have something in common, working from home or remote. I have a small office outside of my home about 3 blocks away. So, it can be difficult seperating work from family - mainly because I take my laptop home with me. I am strongly considering opting for a desktop with our next corporate PC upgrades. About three years ago, I made a major leap toward this seperation of work from family life. I removed my workstation and geeked-up PC from my home (with the help of an F3 tornado that damaged our home :o) ). The only computer we have in the home is my wife's home business PC. I'm not saying that having a computer in the home is a bad thing. Like a television, it must be managed instead of it managing you. For me, having 5 children, this is a very important season in my life to invest in my children and wife. I just purchased a copy of SnagIt from TechSmith. I can't remember if it was Hanselman or AC (Andrew Connell) that first turned me onto this software gadget - but I'm glad I found it. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it provides screen video capture as well as screen captures. It does more than first impressions. I look forward to using it and adding it to my gadget toolbox.
